No.1 (Dave Lilley)

Dave Lilley (Number 1)

To all,

I would like to thank all those who have commented on the Dave’s (No. 1’s) memorial wall

It is quite humbling to see how many lives had been influenced by one man’s wisdom, guidance and inspiration, along with the memories, which each of you have, of the times spent with him.  I know that the family have looked at the comments made and would like to thank you for sharing these with them.

I have received confirmation from the Lilley family about the funeral arrangements.  In accordance with Dave’s wishes to say “Goodbye to his friends” there will be a Service of Thanksgiving in celebration of Dave’s life:

Venue: All Saints Parish Church, St Ives.
Date : Wednesday, 9 January 2013.
Time: 3.30pm

(All Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders able to attend are requested to wear full uniform).

Please come prepared to celebrate Dave’s life.  Please think of a few words which remind you of No.1 (one liners – these can range from things that he would say, things that he would do or something that just reminds you of him) as these maybe used in the service.  You will also be asked to sing and strangely it has also been asked that you practice your “air guitar”.

(The service at the crematorium will be for family only, as Dave requested.)

I have also been asked to remind you that flowers are to be from the family only.   I know No.1 would rather you made a  donation to the “Raise the Roof” fund than give him a bunch of flowers. If you wish to do something in his memory, then a donation to bring his dream of a new Scout Headquarters on Holt Island one step closer would be perfect.  I have included a link below which will take you to the 2nd St. Ives Sea Scout  page on Virgin Money Giving; just click on the “make a donation” button and then follow the instructions.  The family have asked, if you do make a donation that you please leave your name (if you can start any message that you put with “No.1” or if you do not wish to leave a message, the just put “No.1”).

Donations can also be made via the funeral director, Andrew Cook, 2b Harding Way, St Ives PE27 3WR.  Please note that any cash donations left at the church will go to church funds.

There will be refreshments available after the service in the Parish Church Hall in Ramsey Road.

Parking outside the church is extremely limited so the family ask that you do not park in Church Street but instead use the town car parks and walk to the church.

As I hear of any further news, I will of course forward this on to you all.  As previously, if anybody wishes to discuss anything I am contactable by phone on 07967 619131 or by email

Yours respectfully

Rob Taylor
