What We Do
Adventurous Fun…
Unique Experience…
Skills For Life…
We are extremely fortunate as a Group as we have an Island as our playground, providing us with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of water-based activities.
During the Summer months we can be regularly found kayaking, canoeing, rafting, bell boating and stand-up paddle boarding on the Great Ouse river, with the Scouts joining our local Sailing Club once a week.
Our Island also allows us to offer a huge range of land based activities including archery, shooting, tomahawk throwing and pioneering. We are also able to indulge ourselves within the facilities with a number of camps held on the Island for each of the sections throughout the year; these camps vary from traditional camping to going ‘back to basics’ where we sleep under the stars and cook on open fires.
Although our playground provides us with great adventures and experiences all sections also reach further afield taking part in regular trips to activity centres, beaches and country parks; Scouts and Explorers go the extra mile and go hiking up mountains in the Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District and the Brecon Beacons……they’ve even ventured up to Scotland to play in the lochs.
During the winter months we retract into our fantastic hut for conventional Scouting activities, learn new skills through a variety of activities, games and trips out, with the odd night time expedition to liven things up.
Each year the Group runs an all section camp when we take over an activity centre with all members interacting through activities and games.
We send Scout members on international trips and encourage the attainment of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Chief Scout awards and fulfillment of the Duke of Edinburgh volunteer criteria through our Young Leader programme.
We visit local key community service providers, such as the Community Fire and Police Stations, places of worship and host a variety of outside guests such as MAGPAS and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. We Parade on St. George’s Day, Remembrance Sunday and the Local Mayors Parade. We encourage fundraising with several events throughout the year that are great social occasions as well.
Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society
